Grape Vine - Brianna
Brianna is a delicious greenish-gold grape known for its sweet, fruity flavour with tropical notes of pineapple and mango. Though seeded, it is excellent for fresh eating and highly valued for juice, which develops a complex, distinctive taste.
Berries are medium to large (about 3 g each) with moderately thick, adherent skins that help extend storage. Fruit ripens mid-season and can keep for several weeks—up to about two months—when stored at 0–4 °C with high humidity.
The vine is very vigorous, productive, and orderly in growth, producing medium, compact clusters that may occasionally show millerandage (uneven berry set). It has medium to good resistance to common grape diseases but is susceptible to crown gall. Very cold hardy (Zone 4, or Zone 3 with snow cover), it tolerates temperature extremes well. Self-fertile, though yields improve with another variety nearby. Bud break is naturally late in spring.
Developed by Elmer Swenson in 1983 and released for propagation in 2001, Brianna is generally hardy without protection, though in colder areas (Zone 4a and below) some growers lay pruned vines on the ground for snow insulation over winter.
