Grape Vine - Radisson
Radisson is a good-sized blue seeded grape that is very juicy and well balanced, with pleasant sweetness and a touch of acidity reminiscent of purple grape juice. The skin is relatively thin, making it an excellent table grape. Its striking colour and attractive veraison—from bright green to deep blue—also make it visually appealing.
The vine is vigorous, easy to grow, and productive, with fruit typically ripening mid-season (around mid-September). It is commonly trained to a 4–5 ft fruiting wire. Radisson shows strong resistance to early autumn frosts and very good overall disease resistance, including strong field performance against downy mildew. Like most grapes, bud break is relatively late in spring.
Developed in Wisconsin by breeder Elmer Swenson, Radisson is well adapted to northern climates.
In colder regions, some growers lay pruned vines on the ground in fall so snow can provide winter insulation, although the variety is generally hardy without extra protection.
