Grape Vine - Trollhaugen

$45.00 (each)

Trollhaugen produces medium-sized, dark blue-black grapes in compact clusters. The berries are soft and juicy with a sweet, floral flavour highlighted by notes of peach and blueberry. Though sometimes called seedless, the grapes contain very small, barely noticeable seeds. The medium-thick slip skin separates easily from the pulp. Best suited for fresh eating, it can also be used for drying. Fruit ripens early (late August to early September in Zone 4) and should be harvested promptly to avoid deterioration.

The vine is very vigorous and cold hardy to Zone 4. It breaks bud late in spring, helping reduce frost risk. While self-fertile, yields improve significantly with another grape variety nearby. It shows good resistance to most grape diseases but has slight susceptibility to phylloxera.

Developed by Elmer Swenson, Trollhaugen was selected in 1985 and released in 2000. The name was given by breeder and vineyard owner David McGregor, inspired by a Wisconsin ski resort. It is sometimes nicknamed “Troll.”
